Web Design…..Where to start?

Web Design.....Where to start?

It is no secret that a good quality website is one of the most important things that you need to have in place when it comes to your business. The trouble is, where do you start with this? What do you do to create the perfect website?

Web design can be confusing and if you are not particularly tech minded, it may even seem impossible. In order to help you to understand some of the basics of creating a website, we have put together our idea for starting on web design for your business.

Know the purpose of your website

Before you dive right in and start creating that glorious website, you need to make sure that you 100% know the purpose of your creation and what you are going to want it to be able to do. If it is just for more information on what your business can do, then leave it at that.

However, if it is for e-commerce or is a portal for your customers to use, then you are going to need to make sure that these things are included, that they are planned for and that you know how to
create these aspects.

Research the latest trends in website design

You might not be particularly tech aware, but when it comes to website design it is always worthwhile paying attention to the latest trends that are out there. Of course, just because something is the very newest trend on the market, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is going to be the right option for you. However, it is always worthwhile knowing what options are open to you.

Choose the right platform

If you do want to create your website yourself, then you are going to need the right platform that is going to work for your needs. There are plenty of options out there and in order to make sure that you find one that is right for you, then you are going to need to assess each option and see which one has what you are looking for. The most popular out there are WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and Weebly. If you are setting up an e-commerce site then there are also specific e-commerce options, which includes Shopify.

Each option has its own pros and cons, which you will need to consider before you make your decision on which one is going to be the best option for you.

Select a theme or a template

Once you know what you want your website to do and you know where you want to do it; then the time has come to start putting together the design. The majority of platforms will have themes or templates that you can then use for your own website.

The template builds the bare bones of the website and you will then be able to populate it with the information that relates to your business.

Time to design

When you have finished the basics, then you need to start thinking about how your website will actually look and the content that you will have on there. You need to think about colour scheme, positioning, fonts and of course the imagery that you are going to use. You also need to consider the content that you want to have on there too. This is an incredibly important part of the process.

The thing about website design is that it seems straightforward, but the truth is that it can actually be incredibly difficult to get to grips with and to work on. There are plenty of areas that you need to learn about and also mistakes that you can make along the way too.
